FAQ

1. Are log homes a good investment?

Yes, absolutely. Appreciation on a quality log home is typically better than a comparable frame home.

2. Are log homes energy efficient?

Definitely – log homes can be 25-30% more efficient than the average home during the heating and cooling season.

3. What does it mean to “Dry In” a log home?

In general, to "Dry In" a log home means you build the log home on a foundation and sub floor (generally provided by others) up to and including roof sheathing. Windows and exterior doors will be installed and interior walls will be framed in, per the drawings. No interior finish carpentry is provided on a Dry In project.

4. What does a Turn Key project include?

With a Turn Key project, CLH is responsible for executing the entire project – from the ground up through completion of the log home including plumbing, electrical, HVAC and interior and exterior finish carpentry. Upon completion the log home is in move in ready condition.

5. Can CLH provide building crews to Dry In my log home?

6. Does CLH limit operations to a specific region?

No – CLH can provide our packages and services across the continental United States.

7. What design features make a CLH log home material package
the right choice for my new log home?

  1. CLH models are designed to be easy to build and finish.  Designs consider electrical, HVAC, and plumbing runs when laying out the structure.

  2. Conventional, energy efficient details are standard with a CLH designed log home.

  3. CLH uses only the Finest Log Materials. Western pine, Engleman Spruce, Ponderosa Pine or Lodgepole Pine are selected from dead standing timber or have been air dried for a minimum of 2 – 5 years. Kiln dried Eastern White Pine logs are also available.

8. Am I limited to standard floor plans?

No – not at all . . . you are only limited by your imagination and, of course, your budget. CLH can design a home from your sketch, our plans or a combination of both to accommodate your needs.

9. What is more expensive –
metal roofing or 30 yr. architectural shingles?

Metal roofing is almost double the cost (material and labor) of the shingles.

10. How do we begin a log home project and how long will this take?

There can be many steps to this process and the length of time depends on many variables and how much of the work you want to handle. Let’s assume that you already own the land, have been pre-approved for financing of the project, and intend to contract with CLH to Dry In the log home. Some typical steps with the log home supplier are:

  1. Design Phase – finalize home layout and general floor plan

  2. Engineering and preliminary package drawings

  3. Final estimate leading to a signed contract – initial deposits

  4. Final drawings – reviewed, revised and ready for construction

  5. Once drawings are released for construction, order materials – logs, framing lumber, doors, windows, etc. can  be ordered

  6. Material package assembled for shipment to job site

  7. Begin building log home on existing foundation / sub floor

11. Once we are under contract –
how long before my log home package is on site?

If a standard CLH model is selected, the materials package can be ready for shipment to your site within 4 weeks after a contract is signed and deposit received.  Non standard designs may require some additional time.
